How to use DashShot — watch or read

1. Install the DashShot app for macOS or Windows and sign in with your dash-shot.com account.
2. Press Ctrl+Shift+1 and drag to select an area. Esc cancels.
3. The editor opens. Add arrows or text if you need to.
4. Click “Link →” — a short link is copied to your clipboard right away.

Tip: Faster: Ctrl+Shift+2 captures the whole screen and gives you a link with no editor. You can also paste an image (Ctrl+V) or drop a file into your dashboard on dash-shot.com. To change hotkeys: DashShot tray icon → “Change hotkeys…”.

1. Take a screenshot — the editor opens automatically.
2. Pick a tool on the toolbar: arrow, line, box, pen, highlighter, text, numbered marker.
3. To hide passwords or personal data, choose “Pixelate” and select the area.
4. To crop, choose “Crop”, drag the handles and press Enter or double-click.
5. Change colour and line width on the same toolbar. Made a mistake? Ctrl+Z.
6. Finish with “Link →” to share, “Copy PNG” to paste into a chat, or “Save” for a file.

Tip: For text on a busy background, turn on “Text background” so it stays readable.

1. Install the DashShot extension from the Chrome Web Store and sign in in its settings.
2. Open the page and click the DashShot icon in the toolbar.
3. Choose “Visible area” for what is on screen, or “Full page” — DashShot scrolls and stitches the page for you.
4. Need time to open a menu or hover something? Pick a 3 s or 5 s delay.
5. The screenshot opens in the editor — the rest works like the regular editor.

1. In the app press Ctrl+Shift+9. In Chrome press Ctrl+Shift+R or click the DashShot icon → “Record video”.
2. Choose what to record: the whole screen or one window. Turn on the microphone and, if you like, the camera — you will appear in a bubble in the corner.
3. Click “🔴 Full screen”, or “▢ Region” to record just part of the screen. In Chrome, click “Choose source and start”.
4. While recording, the toolbar lets you pause, draw on screen, highlight the cursor or add an effect.
5. Click “Stop and save” (in Chrome, “Stop” or Ctrl+Shift+X).
6. Click “🔗 Link” to copy a link, or “💾 Save” to get the file.

Tip: On the Free plan recordings run up to 5 minutes and you can keep up to 25 videos. Pro has no limits.

1. Open the recorder: Ctrl+Shift+9 in the app, or the DashShot icon → “Record video” in Chrome.
2. In the app click GIF. In Chrome turn on “GIF up to 12 s, no sound”.
3. Record the action — up to 12 seconds. Recording stops on its own.
4. Wait for encoding, then click “Link” or “Save”.

Tip: GIFs suit short actions: “where to click”, “what the bug looks like”. GIFs have no sound.

1. After you stop recording, a timeline appears under the video.
2. Click “✂ Add cut” (in Chrome, “Cut”) and move the edges of the part you want to remove.
3. Add as many cuts as you need and click “Trim”.
4. Changed your mind? “↺ Undo trim” restores the original.

Tip: Trim before you create a link or a guide — they use the trimmed video.

1. In the app open the recorder (Ctrl+Shift+9) and click “📝 Script before recording”.
2. Describe the topic in one sentence, for example “demo of a new feature for a client”.
3. Click “✨ Generate” — AI suggests a short list of talking points.
4. Record while glancing at the list.

Tip: The script window never shows up in the recording. This feature is in the macOS and Windows app. One script is one AI action.

1. In the app press Ctrl+Shift+8.
2. Choose a mode: “🎤 Voice”, “📹 Video” with your camera, or “🖥️ Screen” to show what you mean.
3. Click “⏺ Record” and explain the task as you would to a colleague.
4. Click “⏹ Stop”, then “Form the task”.
5. AI fills in the title, context, expected result, owner, success criteria and deadline. Edit any field and click “💾 Save changes”.
6. Click “📋 Copy” and send the link to whoever will do it. They don’t need an account.

Tip: Emails, phone numbers and card numbers in the recording are hidden automatically. One task is one AI action: 10 a month on Free, 300 on Pro.

1. Record your screen while you do the process. Pause for 1–2 seconds on important screens.
2. Stop recording and trim the start and end if needed.
3. Click “📄 Documentation” (in Chrome, “Create documentation”).
4. Wait about half a minute: DashShot takes 10 key frames and AI describes every step.
5. The link to the finished guide is copied automatically.
6. To fix a step’s description, open the guide while signed in, click the text and edit it — it saves automatically.

Tip: All guides are in your dashboard under “Documentation”. One guide is one AI action.

1. Before sharing, tick “Require email before viewing” (🔒) — in the editor, after recording, or on a card in your dashboard.
2. DashShot asks whether to allow only one specific address. Enter an email, or leave it empty to accept any.
3. Viewers see a form and open the screenshot, recording, task or guide only after entering an email.

Tip: A Pro feature. You can see who entered an email in the view statistics.

1. Open your dashboard on dash-shot.com → “Library”.
2. On a screenshot or recording card, choose 1 day, 7 days or 30 days.
3. After that, the file is deleted and the link stops working. “Never” switches back to a permanent link.

1. Share the link. Viewers comment under the screenshot or video — no sign-up, name optional.
2. To split a long video into chapters, open your own link while signed in.
3. Seek to the moment you want, type a chapter name and click “+ Marker at current time”.
4. Chapters appear under the video so viewers can jump straight to them.

1. Open your dashboard → “Library”, “Tasks” or “Documentation”.
2. Each card shows the number of views and how much of the video was watched on average.

Tip: A Pro feature. On Free the card shows “Statistics — Pro” instead of numbers.

1. Open your dashboard on dash-shot.com → “Library”. All screenshots and recordings are here.
2. “Copy” copies the link again.
3. The expiry list makes a link temporary, 🔒 locks it behind an email.
4. ✕ deletes it. The link stops working.

Tip: On Free the library holds up to 25 videos — delete old ones to record new ones.

1. Open your dashboard → “Tasks”. A dot on the tab means someone replied.
2. Group tasks with “📁 Assign project” and type a client or project name.
3. The assignee sets the status from the link (“Not done”, “In progress”, “Done”), ticks sub-steps and leaves comments.
4. Use the search box to find tasks by title or project.

1. Open your dashboard → “Settings”.
2. Change your email and password in their blocks. You sign in to the app and extension with your email.
3. The “API token” block is for ShareX and your own scripts: they upload files to /api/upload with this token.

Tip: Keep the token private: anyone with it can upload files to your account.

1. Open your dashboard → “Settings”. The “Your plan” block shows how many AI actions and videos you have used.
2. To try Pro, click “Try Pro free for 7 days”. No card needed, once per account.
3. To earn Pro, open the “🎁 Free Pro” tab: invite a friend, complete onboarding, or submit a review, article or bug.

Tip: AI action limits reset on the 1st of every month.
